Some Half Truths We Live By

Posted by Sonder Yonder on 12:08 AM in , ,
Because this is my first post then I guess I better start with my strong suit... and that is to tell you stuff you might not have known.

This list is pretty simple and may not entirely be "amazing" to some but I bet there are some things here that may surprise some. The whole idea is... "some things aren't what they are supposed to be".

We unconsciously live with half truths and they differ in shapes and sizes. One year does not necessarily mean 365 days. Pluto is not a planet (although I still think it is).

Starfishes aren't fishes... they are echinoderms.

The eucalyptus eating koala bear is a marsupial and not a real bear. (not a relative of mine I guess)

A hydrogen bond is not really a true bond. Instead it is considered an electromagnetic attraction.

A mountain goat is more related to the chamois and is therefore not a goat.

The things we call "swollen glands" are actually lymph nodes and not glands.

That two-by-four you buy at your friendly neighborhood lumberyard is not exactly 2 x 4 inches.

Pink is not considered a color.

A penny is really worth more that a penny. It costs 2 cents more to make one.

Peanuts are actually legumes and not nuts.

The animal we call the American buffalo is a bison and not a buffalo.

Palm trees are considered as "grass" and not as "trees".

Which half truth surprised you?

Happy Monday everyone!
